Last night our Div 5 ladies travelled to Portmarmock to take on Rangers in a top of the table clash. Tridents were without captain, Brenda Lavelle, who is still recovering from a broken heel suffered in a recent league game. To add to the injury woes, vice-captain, Caroline Latham limped out of the warm-up with an Achilles injury. The bench looked more like an A&E dept than a basketball team. Despite all these setbacks Tridents began the game strongly and matched Rangers basket for basket. It was hard to pick a winner at this stage. It was only when coach Sarah changed the defensive system that Tridents came into their own. Tridents hit Rangers several times on the fast break to pull out a double digit lead at half time. Quarter 3 saw the teams exchange basket for basket with Tridents maintaining their lead going into the final quarter. As expected, Rangers began a fight back but the clock was against them and Tridents eventually ran out deserving winners by 41pts to 36pts. The girls now finish the first half of the season at the top of the league with a cup semi-final to look forward to in the 2nd half. Well done girls!!
